Shannon  Smith : Northwestern

 

Freshman gives an all around performance in Northwestern’s wins over Hofstra and Rutgers

 

Northwestern’s freshman midfielder, Shannon Smith, receives the WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week after she notched 4 goals, 6 draw controls, a groundball and a caused turnover to help Northwestern power over Hofstra and Rutgers this past week. Smith tallied a hat trick and 2 draw controls in their win over Hofstra, and added 1 goal, 1 ground ball, 1 caused turnover and 4 draw controls in the game against Rutgers. On the season Smith has started all 8 games and is tied for fifth on the team with 10 points. Smith entered her freshman year at Northwestern with an impressive resume as a 3 time All-American, and holds the New York state records in career points (729) and career goals (505) as well as in single-season goals (129 in 2006). Smith and the Wildcats return to action this week on Sunday against Syracuse in a highly anticipated match up against two of the top teams in the country.
