Freshman Goalkeeper backstops Maryland to first ACC Championship since 2003
Maryland’s freshman goalkeeper, Brittany Dipper, receives her first WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week award, after an impressive showing at the 2009 ACC Tournament. Dipper was named to the ACC Championship All-Tournament team after notching double digit save performances against both Virginia and Duke. Dipper led the Terps with a career high 12 saves and added 2 ground balls as Maryland topped Virginia 15-7 in the semifinal. Dipper’s 10 saves proved to be a difference maker as the Terps narrowly topped Duke, 12-11, in the Championship game. The freshman keeper hails from Clarksboro, N.J. and has played in all of Maryland’s games in 2009, starting 16 of 18 and notching 91 saves. The undefeated (18-0) Terps close out the 2009 regular season in College Park on Saturday when they take on the Princeton Tigers. Maryland has secured the ACC’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and will await the 2009 Selection Show on Sunday 5/3 for their seeding and first-round opponent.
