Maggie Bill – North Carolina

Freshman leads Top-Ranked Tar Heels in victories over two ranked opponents

North Carolina’s freshman midfielder, Maggie Bill, clinches WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week honors after leading the Tar Heels to an early season victory over the 17th-ranked Penn Quakers on Saturday. Bill had a breakout game, leading all UNC players with a career-high 4 goals. Bill seemed to build steam after her performance earlier in the week, when she notched two goals, an assist, a ground ball, and a draw control in the Tar Heels’ 19-9 victory over the 12th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Inside Lacrosse’s #2-ranked incoming freshmen for 2014, Bill hails from Huntington, NY, and is gaining attention in her early career in Chapel Hill. In UNC’s 13-9 victory over Penn, Bill added two ground balls and 4 draw controls. The Tar Heels remain undefeated with a 6-0 record, and Saturday marked their 10th consecutive win, dating back to their 2013 Championship run. The current winning streak is the fourth-longest in program history; the 2002 Tar Heels won a school-record 12 contests in a row, and the 1997 and 2013 squads put together 11 straight wins each. Bill and the Tar Heels will look to climb up the record books when they return to the field on Saturday at 1PM, against Virginia in Charlottesville.
